LAKES AREA MUSIC FESTIVAL
Begins Sunday: Looking for a dose of classical music in August? Set sail for beautiful Brainerd, where the Lakes Area Music Festival, founded in 2009, is expanding exponentially. Artistic director Scott Lykins and more than 50 guest artists have plotted an inviting seven-concert schedule that includes piano quartets by Mozart and Brahms (7 p.m. Wed.), Scandinavian chamber music (3 p.m. Aug. 12), a staged production of Mozart's "Magic Flute" (7 p.m. Aug. 15) and an afternoon of American-themed orchestral music centered on Samuel Barber's marvelous Violin Concerto (3 p.m. Aug. 19).
