ST. CLOUD – Even as Belle Plaine trailed Maple Lake 4-0 after three innings Friday in the Class 2A semifinals, the Tigers weren't worried.

"We talk amongst ourselves and say all it takes is one positive attitude," senior Wes Sarsland said.

A four-run fifth inning, including Sarsland's tying single through the right side of the infield, proved them right as top-seeded Belle Plaine (25-1) advanced to the Class 2A championship game with a 6-4 victory over Maple Lake (23-7) at Dick Putz Field.

Maple Lake got a first-inning homer from senior Jack Seibert to take the lead. He finished with three hits and three RBI.

Belle Plaine's rally including a two-run double by junior Nathan Herman. Junior Brody Curtiss scored twice, including a steal of home in the fifth.

Minnehaha Academy 4, Pierz 2: Despite multiple weather delays, the Redhawks (26-3) found enough offense for one big inning to down the Pioneers (22-5). The game was initially delayed just before the first pitch, then twice more after the game started.

Maintaining focus was crucial for the Redhawks during the delays, and coach Scott Glenn pointed to his captains as the key factor.

"I have four captains that really do a good job, and they kept everybody focused," Glenn said.

The Redhawks scored all of their runs in the third inning, just after the third rain delay. Pierz scored one unearned run in the top of the first and then again in the sixth on a single from senior Aaron Weber.
