CAIRO — In a story July 19, The Associated Press reported that the surprise attack by Egyptian forces across the Suez Canal in the 1973 war with Israel led to the return of the Sinai Peninsula, which had been occupied by Israel. The story should have made clear that Israeli forces regrouped during the fighting and regained Sinai territory. Israel handed over the Sinai to Egypt as part of the 1979 peace deal.
