There were some notable developments for the Gophers football team on the track this past weekend.

Wide receiver Devin Crawford-Tufts finished third in the 60-meter dash at the Big Ten indoor championships with a time of 6.80 seconds. He also finished eighth in the 200-meter dash.

Tufts was the Minnesota Class AA state champion in the 100- and 200-meter sprints for Edina. He started eight games for the football team last fall as a sophomore, catching 16 passes for 189 yards and one touchdown.

In other track news, incoming Gophers running back Berkley Edwards won the Michigan indoor state title in the 60-meter dash, clocking in at 6.86 seconds.

At the NFL combine, former Gophers quarterback MarQueis Gray ran the 40-yard dash in 4.73 seconds. At Minnesota's pro day on March 4, the 6-3, 240-pound Gray plans to throw and run pass-catching routes for NFL scouts.

Writing for USA Today, Tony Pauline said this about Gray:

Gray initially was pegged for a position change by NFL scouts, but that opinion will be revisited after his combine performance. The strong-armed passer displayed uncanny accuracy on all his throws. Receivers were not forced to work hard to make catches; Gray placed the ball nicely in their hands. Gray had a few errant tosses but delivered much more than expected during his workout. The original plan of moving Gray from quarterback to tight end may be placed on hold for a while.
