Charges were filed Thursday against the driver of a car that hit and critically injured a 23-year-old man in south Minneapolis earlier this week.

Kaleb Conway was charged with second-degree DWI and criminal vehicular operation in connection with the accident in the Longfellow neighborhood, the Hennepin County attorney's office announced Thursday.

He was arrested Monday morning, minutes after police say he ran over another man crossing the street near a pawnshop in the 2700 block of E. Lake Street and allegedly leaving the scene.

An off-duty Minneapolis police officer caught up to Conway a few blocks from the scene and took him into custody, prosecutors said.

Conway, who has been in custody since his arrest, was being held Thursday in lieu of $75,000.

Authorities said Conway, 26, was driving away from Merlins Rest Pub, where he had "consumed four alcoholic drinks," when he struck Luis Angel Cruz-Guzman as he crossed the street early Monday morning, critically injuring him.
