The Centennial Lakes Office Park in Edina has been awarded the International TOBY Award for outstanding building of the year in its category.

The Building Owners and Managers Association of Greater Minneapolis had four properties qualify for an International TOBY Award, the commercial real estate industry's highest honor, but Centennial Lakes was the only one to take home a prize last week at the BOMA International Conference & Expo in Nashville.

Centennial Lakes won in the Suburban Office Park (mid-rise) category. The five-building office complex, located not far from the France Avenue and the Interstate 494 interchange, is made up of 835,000 square feet of space, three small lakes with a walking path and a retail plaza.

The property is owned by United Properties and State Farm Realty Co. and managed by Cushman & Wakefield NorthMarq.

Last year, the Ford Center in Minneapolis and the TRIA Orthopaedic Center in Bloomington won International TOBY Awards.

Edina Collaborative project receives final and unanimous approval

The city of Edina has given final approval to the Edina Collaborative project that repurposes vacant property and parking lots along Market Street, formerly called W. 49½ Street, behind the intersection of W. 50th Street and France Avenue.

At a meeting in late June, the City Council provided final, unanimous approval for the $79 million redevelopment plan and the sale of land owned by the city's Housing and Redevelopment Authority.

Developers Buhl Investors of Edina and Minneapolis-based Saturday Properties plan to build 34,000 square feet of new retail space along with 110 apartment units and new public parking stalls. The entire project is scheduled to be complete by the summer of 2019.

"This is a significant opportunity to build on the historic legacy of our downtown Edina," Bill Neuendorf, Edina's economic development manager, said in a statement. "In the midst of retail shifts and given residents' desire for unique experiences, Market Street is perfectly positioned to give people even more reason to make 50th & France a destination to shop, eat, work and live."
