CC upsets Denver for last Final Five spot

• COLORADO COLLEGE 4, DENVER 3: Tigers forward Charlie Taft of Edina broke a 3-all tie at 9 minutes, 49 seconds of the third period, and his goal enabled Colorado College (16-18-5) to win its best-of-three series over the Pioneers at Magness Arena. CC, seeded eighth, was the only underdog to win a first-round series and advance to next weekend's Final Five. Denver (20-13-5) took a 2-0 lead in the opening period, but the Tigers scored the next three goals. Rylan Schwartz's shorthanded goal in the middle of the second period put CC ahead 3-2. Denver's David Makowski tied the score at 3-all early in the third.

• MSU MANKATO 3, NEBRASKA OMAHA 1: Max Gaede's first goal of the season, at 13:45 of the opening period, was the game-winner as the purple-uniform Mavericks (24-12-3) beat the visiting red Mavericks (19-18-2) to advance to the Final Five. Bryce Gervais and Matt Leitner had the other goals for MSU, midway through the first period and early in the third, respectively. Stephon Williams had 26 shots for the home team, John Faulkner 32 saves for UNO, which finished 1-6-0.

• NORTH DAKOTA 6, MICHIGAN TECH 0: UND is returning to St. Paul for the 11th consecutive year to try to win its fourth Broadmoor Trophy in a row. Host North Dakota took command of this best-of-three series in the second period by scoring four goals to take a 5-0 lead. Corban Knight got the first of those goals to put UND ahead 2-0. Then it was Carter Rowney, Mitch MacMillan and Colten St. Clair scoring. Tech freshman goalie Copley Pheonix stopped 17 of 18 shots in the first period, 38 total.
