Caribou Coffee revealed its "Bold North" blend Thursday that will be served to 10,000 frigid volunteers, and sold in the company's Minnesota stores, leading up to the Super Bowl in February.

The Brooklyn Center-based coffee company will donate 50,000 cups over the course of the 10-day pregame celebration for the Crew 52 volunteers. Caribou will also sell cups of the blend at Super Bowl Live on Minneapolis' Nicollet Mall, at the Mall of America and at other Super Bowl-related events throughout the Twin Cities.

"As the Minnesota hometown coffee brand, we are proud to be fueling Super Bowl LII," said John Butcher, president of Caribou, in a statement. "The Bold North Blend is our way of saying welcome to the great state of coffee."

Of course, the limited-edition dark roast will also be sold in take-home bags at Caribou coffeeshops throughout Minnesota from late December through February.

Maureen Bausch, chief executive of the Minnesota Super Bowl Host Committee, said she is thrilled to have an exclusive coffee for the event, created by a local company.

Caribou is the second-largest premium coffeehouse chain in the U.S. The approachable Bold North blend, which the company calls "a tribute to the northern spirit," is roasted in small batches and is 100-percent Rainforest Alliance Certified.

U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis will host the Super Bowl on Feb. 4, 2018. Many other Minnesota-based companies expect to capitalize on the opportunity by having a significant presence at the festivities.
