A car left a road in Mendota Heights and struck two trees head-on, killing the driver, authorities said Monday.

Benjamin K. Dahlstrom, 26, of Inver Grove Heights, was not wearing a seat belt when his car left southbound Delaware Avenue about 1:50 a.m. Sunday and crashed off to the right of the two-lane road, according to police Sgt. Neil Garlock.

Authorities have yet to determine whether alcohol use played a role in the crash, but Garlock said that there were no initial indications of that being the case.

Garlock added that nothing at the scene suggested that Dahlstrom used his brakes or sharply changed course after leaving his lane about a mile before Delaware Avenue crosses under Interstate 494.
