A Hennepin County judge on Tuesday found two brothers guilty of torturing and raping a mother and her teenage daughter during a violent home invasion last summer.

Reggie Bishop, 32, and Deondre Bishop, 31, were found guilty by District Judge Jay Quam after they agreed to a stipulated evidence trial. Quam convicted the Bishops on two counts each of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count each of first-degree burglary. Eight other charges were dropped as part of the agreement.

"The allegations in this case feature depravity and sadism that is rarely equaled, even in the often violent world of felony cases," Quam wrote in his orders finding the men guilty.

A third defendant, Roynell Taylor Jr., 32, pleaded guilty to the same three charges July 18 and will be sentenced Aug. 19. As part of his plea, Taylor denied raping anyone but admitted that he participated in the conduct leading to the rapes.

The Bishops will be sentenced Sept. 12. They are each expected to receive 30 years in prison. Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said it's the sentence that prosecutors expected when they took the case to a grand jury.

According to the charges, about 11 p.m. on July 19, 2015, a 14-year-old girl went downstairs to the kitchen of her north Minneapolis home and was confronted by three men with guns wearing white masks. They took her upstairs, shouted at her mother and put pillowcases over both of their heads while demanding to know where the money was. They threatened to burn the victims unless they were told where money was located in the house; they also tried to scald them in the shower, but the water did not get hot enough. Afterward, they raped both the teen and her mother before leaving with TVs, a laptop and cellphones.

Afterward, the mother told police she recognized Reggie Bishop by his voice and build as an acquaintance of her boyfriend. A taxi driver who drove them to the house identified the Bishops, and photos on Deondre Bishop's phone had photos of items taken from the home, as well as a photo of himself in a white mask like the kind used in the robbery.
