1. Four on the floor?
DeLaSalle, located on the edge of downtown Minneapolis, seeks admittance into a select group of schools to win four consecutive state titles. Southwest Minnesota Christian earned its Class 1A championship quartet from 1999 to 2002. Minneapolis Henry enjoyed a four-part run of Class 3A titles (2000-03). The Islanders' four losses this season were against Apple Valley, Cretin-Derham Hall, and two of the top teams in Iowa. Three Division I-bound players lead the way: Sacar Anim (Marquette), Josh Collins (North Dakota) and Jarvis Johnson (Minnesota).
2. Life is grand
Several players have exceeded 1,000 career points. Gorg Alhag has 1,027 points, good for eighth all-time at Mankato East. Orono's Cole Hennings, who scored a career high 31 points in the section final, reached the plateau this season. Hermantown's duo of Tom Madison and Kole Zuidmulder both entered the club, as did Albany's Nick Raeker.
3. These Hawks soar
The prep sports news wasn't all bad in Hermantown, a suburb of Duluth, last weekend. Sure, the hockey team lost a record sixth-consecutive Class 1A state championship game Saturday. But the night before, the Hawks' basketball team qualified for its first state tournament. Hermantown is one of two programs making its debut. (Nevis in Class 1A is the other.)
