A 5-year-old boy ran into the street and was fatally struck by an SUV near a lake in southwestern Minnesota, authorities said Monday.
Yomi A. Costello, of Worthington, Minn., was hit late Saturday morning on County Hwy. 4 on the south end of Loon Lake, according to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.
Yomi "ran across the road directly in front" of the driver, 68-year-old Marjorie Svoboda, of rural Jackson, according to Sheriff Roger Hawkinson.
The sheriff said the crash remains under investigation for any possible citation.
The boy's relatives said Yomi, a kindergartner at Prairie Elementary School in Worthington, was at the lake with his family on a fishing outing.
