A body pulled from the Black River on Friday evening has been identified as 23-year-old Shalim Shahjehan Augustine, the La Crosse, Wis., Police Department confirmed Friday night.

The La Crosse Fire Department responded to reports of something floating south of the I-90 bridge near the Clinton Street boat landing at 6:10 p.m. Friday. By 6:22 p.m., members of the fire and police department recovered a body from the river.

The body was later identified as Augustine, who had been missing since Tuesday night.

There were no visible signs of trauma, police said.

Augustine had been boating with co-workers from Huck Finn's on the Water on Tuesday evening. Police said he had been drinking, but did not know whether he was drunk.

After docking near Powerhouse Marine, Augustine told his friends he planned to walk to his home on the South Side. He was reported missing Wednesday evening after he didn't report to work.

Bloodhounds tracked his scent Wednesday across Clinton Street to just north of the La Crosse Loggers field in Copeland Park, where the trail ended.
