An 8-year-old boy from south-central Minnesota was injured Thursday when he was hit by an arrow fired by his brother, who was aiming at a target, authorities said.

In a news release, the Blue Earth County Sheriff's Office said it got a 911 call at 4:37 p.m. from a home in Pleasant Mound Township, near the town of Amboy. Deputies found that the boy had been hit by an arrow released by his brother, whose age it did not release.

The injured boy was taken by helicopter to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, where he was listed in serious but stable condition Thursday night.

Although the Sheriff's Office characterized the incident as an accident, an investigation is underway, it said.
