WASHINGTON — Vice President Joe Biden is getting a new chief of staff.

Biden's office announced that current chief of staff Bruce Reed is leaving the White House. He'll be replaced by Steve Ricchetti, who has served as a counselor to the vice president since last year.

Reed was a key player in the White House's efforts to enact stricter gun control laws earlier this year. While legislation failed on Capitol Hill, Biden and Reed oversaw the implementation of nearly two dozen executive actions aimed at combating gun violence.

Ricchetti is a former lobbyist who also worked on Capitol Hill and in the Clinton administration.
