Grand Forks, N.D. – The Bemidji State women's hockey team edged Minnesota 1-0 Saturday in the semifinals of the WCHA Final Face-Off. The Gophers, ranked No. 2 nationally, were the three-time defending champions.

But Bemidji State sophomore Brittni Mowatt, the WCHA's co-first team all-conference goalie, made 37 saves, including 18 in the second period, for her seventh shutout of the season.

The Beavers will play Wisconsin in Sunday's final after the Badgers beat North Dakota 4-1.

Stephanie Anderson, a junior from North St. Paul, scored the lone goal. She beat junior Amanda Leveille, who had 17 saves for the Gophers, at 11 minutes, 46 seconds of the third period. Her 14th goal of the season came unassisted.

Bemidji State (21-16-1) came into this game at Ralph Engelstad Arena with a 1-2-1 record against the Gophers. The one previous win also was Mowatt's 1-0 shutout at Ridder Arena on Nov. 1 in which she had 36 stops. It came after a 2-2 tie the night before.

"It's frustrating when you don't score," Gophers coach Brad Frost said. "Pucks have to go in if you want to win the game. We've lost three games all year and we were shut out in all three.

"I thought we at times panicked with the puck tonight, trying to throw some things out front. Really, we generated our best opportunities when we used our defensemen and got them involved. There were times we were able to do that, and other times we weren't able to get things through."

The Gophers (31-3-4) still should easily make the eight-team NCAA field when it is announced at 6 p.m. Sunday on NCAA.com with an at-large bid.
