My son, Tyler LaPorte, is a seventh-grader from Baxter. He's 12 years old and this was the first year he hunted — on opening day he was on a stand near Crosslake with his stepdad, Ty "Pops'' Goeman.
Tyler showed a lot of patience for a first-time hunter! He was out all day Saturday and saw a lot of deer. But he had no shot. Sunday was better.
A nice buck came right into view while Tyler was on his stand, and he dropped him with a single shot, right where he stood.
