The Hennepin County medical examiner's office said that it might take until Thursday to identify a body that was pulled from the Mississippi River early Wednesday.

Deputies from the county Sheriff's Office and officers from the University of Minnesota Police Department responded to a call about a body in the river around 6:27 a.m. Wednesday near the Ford Parkway Bridge in south Minneapolis.

The body was recovered on the Minneapolis side of the river, which is why the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office will lead the investigation. Deputies from the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office and the Minneapolis Police Department also responded.

In a media briefing, U Police Chief Matthew Clark and authorities from the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office would not confirm whether the body was that of missing University of Minnesota student David Michael Miller, who was last seen on May 10. Several searches have been unsuccessful.

Miller, 20, is in his third year at the U, where he is a student in the College of Biological Sciences.
