' Hopper Drawing: A Painter's Progress' at the Walker

Opening Thursday night: Famous for paintings of lonely urbanites and empty streets, Edward Hopper agonized over every design, turning out endless drawings of hands, figures, buildings and interiors. More than 200 drawings and 22 paintings will be featured in "Hopper Drawing: A Painter's Process," including his famous "Office at Night," long a centerpiece of Walker Art Center's collection (pictured). The opening-night party will include a photo-booth version of "Office," a free screening of Hopper's favorite film, "The Savage Eye," and "Old School Art School" drawing lessons. Hopper costumes are encouraged. See Friday's Variety section for a review of the show. (Opens 5-9 p.m. Thursday. Free. Walker Art Center, 1750 Hennepin Av. S., Mpls. $9-$14; free for 17 and younger and for all on Thursday evenings. Ends June 20. 612-375-7600 or www.walkerart.org.)
