Obscured/Revealed

Opening Saturday: An architect and historic preservationist by trade, Bob Roscoe has a keen eye for the urban environment in all its gritty decay and aspirations to perfection. As a photographer by habit, Roscoe always has his camera at the ready to artfully frame a patch of peeling paint, some rusty beams or a tattered wall plastered with peeling signs and posters. As in "Funkobeat," shown here, Roscoe's photos of these shabby relics are layered with history and redolent of times past, of political campaigns, concerts, films and products bought, sold and long forgotten. His colleague Duane Ditty prefers a leaner look, his big minimalist canvases stained with thin washes of color punctuated with staccato lines inspired perhaps by power lines, security fences or urban maps. (Opening reception 7-10 p.m. Sat., Free. Ends Feb. 28. Rosalux Gallery, 1400 NE. Van Buren St., #195, Mpls. rosaluxgallery.com) Mary Abbe
