John Hoffman's recent election to the Minnesota Senate has resulted in an opening on the board of the state's largest school district, Anoka-Hennepin.

Hoffman, a school board member since 2006, represents Anoka-Hennepin District 3, which includes Champlin, Dayton and parts of Coon Rapids. A school district map is available at www.startribune.com/a1913.

Hoffman, of Champlin, currently is the board's vice chairman. His successor will take office in mid-January and should plan to serve until January 2014.

The board is accepting applications and résumés until 4 p.m. on Dec. 14. Applications are available online at www.startribune.com/a1912, or by calling 763-506-1002. Applicants must be at least 21 years old, eligible voters and residents of District 3 for at least 30 days at the time of their appointment.

The school board will interview candidates in January, with plans to make an appointment at its Jan. 14 meeting.
