The Lynx (11-1) and the Chicago Sky (7-2) lead the West and East conferences, respectively.

That in itself makes their Title IX anniversary matchup at 11:30 a.m. Saturday intriguing. So does their history. Their all-time series is tied at 6-6 and seven of those 12 games have been decided by six points or fewer.

Last year they played twice late in the season and the Lynx won both games:

Aug. 12 at Chicago ... Lynx won 79-76 led by Lindsay Whalen who had 16 points and six assists. The bench scored 30 points; Candice Wiggins was the top reserve with 12 points. ... Sylvia Fowles had 28 points and 13 rebounds for the Sky. Tamera Young, expected to start for injured guard Epiphanny Prince (fractured right foot), had 16 points. Point guard Courtney Vandersloot had eight assists.

Sept. 8 at Target Center ... Seimone Augustus scored 22 points and Whalen 20 as the Lynx won 78-69. Whalen also had 10 assists. ... Fowles and Erin Thorn, now a backup Lynx guard, each had 17 points for the Sky.

In an exhibition game at the U's Sports Pavilion on May 15, the Lynx won 82-61.

AMONG ELITE

Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve has the third best winning percentage in WNBA history. Only two former coaches in the league are ahead of her. The list:

Michael Cooper, LA, 167-85, .663

Van Chancellor, Houston, 211-111, .655

Reeve, Lynx, 51-29, .637

Reeve needs eight more victories to past Suzie McConnell Serio as the Lynx coach with the most wins. McConnell Serio was 58-67 from 2003-06.

ADAIR HAS SURGERY

Backup center Jessica Adair had arthroscopic surgery on her right knee on Friday. The knee has been bothering her much of the season.

Team orthopedist Dr. Joel Boyd performed the surgery and it went as expected. Adair will be out of action until after the Summer Olympics break ends in mid-August.

In 10 games, Adair was averaging 3.5 points and 2.4 rebounds and averaging 9.5 minutes.

MILESTONES

Rebekkah Brunson scored her 2,500th point last week against Phoenix. ... Augustus needs 224 points to become the all-time leading scorer in Lynx history, surpassing Katie Smith who scored 3,605 points.

RECAP OF LAST GAME

The Lynx beat the New York Liberty 102-70 on Thursday. Here is a quarter by quarter breakdown:

FIRST QUARTER

Had to feel a bit sorry for Lynx point guard Lindsay Whalen in the first quarter against the Liberty. She had one of her worst quarters of the season:

She was one for six from the field, often trying to go inside against 5-5 Leilani Mitchell. She made her first shot on a fastbreak, then kept missing. One of her shots were blocked.

She also had three turnovers, one on a lost ball, one on a bad pass and the third on a charge. She committed two fouls, too. Pluses were two assists and two rebounds in just under seven minutes.

As a team, the Lynx shot 27.3 percent, had five turnovers and finished the first quarter trailing 22-17.

SECOND QUARTER

The Lynx played much better in the second quarter, outscoring the Liberty 28-20 and shooting 52.6 percent from the field. Seimone Augustus was especially deadly, making five of seven shots, including a three-pointer for 12 points.

After falling behind by 11 early in the second quarter, the Lynx used a 13-0 run to take a 40-34 lead with 1:58 left in the quarter.

Quarter ended with drama. Maya Moore made a three from the right corner with 2.2 seconds left. But Mitchell's shot from half court at the buzzer brought the Liberty within 45-42.

THIRD QUARTER

A nine-point run early in the quarter enabled the Lynx to open a 56-44 lead.

Then, in a three-minute period late in the quarter, rookie Devereaux Peters went to work. Three times she scored inside while being knocked around and fouled. She made two free throws on her three trips to the foul line.

The Liberty players who fouled her were 6-2 Nicole Powell, 6-6 Kelley Cain and 6-3 DeMya Walker.

The Lynx outscored New York 35-21 in this quarter, with Peters getting 10 points. She was three for four from the field, four for five from the free throw line and had two rebounds in only 4:18.

Liberty guard Cappie Pondexter had 17 points, making six of nine shots, including two three-pointers.

The Lynx shot 59.1 percent (13 for 22) in building an 80-63 lead.

FOURTH QUARTER

The Lynx lead kept growing as the outscored N.Y. 14-3 in the first 4:45. The Liberty went three for 18 from the field and scored only seven points. Taj McWilliams-Franklin had three assists as the Lynx went seven for 14 from the field and scored 22 points.
