St. Paul police on Saturday arrested a 29-year-old man who was wanted in connection with a murder last week in Grand Forks, N.D.

Delvin Lamont Shaw was arrested on the 800 block of Marion St. in St. Paul's North End neighborhood Saturday afternoon after a tense 45-minute standoff with police, St. Paul Police Commander Steve Frazer said.

Police in Grand Forks had issued a warrant for Shaw's arrest after Tuesday's burglary and murder of Jose Luis Lopez, who was shot three times in his apartment. Lopez later died at the hospital. Grand Forks Police had arrested one man in connection with the killing as of Wednesday, but had asked for the public's help in locating Shaw.

Frazer said Grand Forks police believed Shaw was headed to the Twin Cities.

"He was staying with people known to him and they eventually pieced together that he was wanted [for murder] and didn't want him around them. So they called," Frazer said.

Frazer said Shaw was arrested "without incident" after the standoff.

Shaw is in the Ramsey County jail awaiting extradition proceedings, Frazer said.
