This is an occasional series about local, national and international efforts to better understand the draw of extremist groups, prevent recruitment and reintegrate former radicals into society. The stories will also explore the reaction to these programs, particularly in Muslim communities that many of them have targeted. The coverage is a partnership between the Star Tribune and the Solutions Journalism Network, an independent, nonprofit organization based in New York City devoted to legitimizing and spreading the practice of solutions journalism: rigorous and compelling reporting about responses to social problems.
