APPLETON, Wis. — The name of suspended Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez has been stripped from a youth sports field in the Wisconsin city of Appleton.

The field was named after Rodriguez in 2003. It's managed by USA Youth, a nonprofit organization of Appleton youth sports clubs.

Matt TenHaken, board president of USA Youth, tells the Appleton Post-Crescent (http://post.cr/12VVZ4e ) the Rodriguez signage has already been taken down. He says the board will now explore its options for renaming the field.

The Fox Cities Sports Authority named the field after Rodriguez to honor his brief but notable stint with the Appleton Foxes, a Class A team that later became the Timber Rattlers. In 65 games for the Foxes in 1994, Rodriguez hit .319 with 14 homers and 55 RBIs before being promoted to Double-A Jacksonville.
