At the Oliver H. Kelley Farm in Elk River on Sunday, 4-year-old Landon Bogee of Minneapolis tried to pick up a young Southdown lamb in one of the pens.

While this is not recommended by the staff, visitors are encouraged to get close to the heritage breed.

Farmer John Hanson held a milking short horn oxen still so Colton Miller, 10, could pet it.

This breed was used in a working 1860s farm — appropriate since Kelley Farm recreates life on the farm during the 19th century.
