Two people were arrested after a shooting outside a Comfort Inn in Bloomington left three men from Chicago injured early Saturday morning, according to police.

The three men were shot during the attempted robbery of a "large number of recently purchased cellphones" in the hotel's parking lot, Bloomington Deputy Chief Mike Hartley said.

Police arrested Kia Joyce Johnson-Gordon, 21, of Joilet, Ill., and Jermaine Cameron Taylor, 28, of Aurora, Ill. Both are in the Bloomington jail pending charges.

Authorities continue to investigate the shooting.

Police received reports of gunshots at the hotel, near the intersection of Interstate 494 and Hwy. 77 in Bloomington, just after 4 a.m. Saturday. Officers found two men in the lobby with gunshot wounds.

Another man who was shot and left the scene before police arrived was found at Woodwinds Hospital in Woodbury.

The wounded men at the hotel were taken to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, and the man found at Woodwinds was transferred to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. All three had noncritical injuries, according to police.

The men had stayed overnight at the Comfort Inn and were loading up their vehicle when Johnson-Gordon and Taylor approached them, according to investigators. Police believe the shots were fired in the parking lot at some point during the attempted robbery.

The Comfort Inn is one of many hotels in Bloomington adjacent to the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and Mall of America. Hartley said the hotel is open and operating normally.

Bloomington police were assisted by the Hennepin County crime lab in the investigation.
