A photo taken of Prince before his first album auctioned off Friday night to benefit the Minneapolis College of Art and Design sold for $32,000.
Bidding for the 40-by-60-inch photograph, taken in 1977 by Robert Whitman, had started at $4,000.
Interest in the photo, which was taken in front of the music mural at 10th and Marquette in downtown Minneapolis, created tremendous buzz, especially in online bidding before the auction. Whitman had called it "the most iconic photograph of Prince in Minneapolis."
