An 18-year-old was accused Friday of killing a man whose body was found in a burning Minneapolis house last week.

Jamil Joshua Eason of Minneapolis was charged with second-degree murder and could face up to 40 years in prison, according to a criminal complaint filed in Hennepin County District Court.

On the night of Nov. 2, firefighters arrived at a fire in the 3800 block of Humboldt Avenue N. Inside, they found Jay Arthur Rosio, 45, face down on the floor.

The body appeared to have no burns, but there was a stab wound near the heart and cuts and bruises to the head. A large knife was recovered nearby.

The Hennepin County medical examiner determined that Rosio suffered blunt-force injuries, six chop wounds to the head, three stab wounds and 18 cut wounds. There was also evidence of possible strangulation, but no smoke was found in Rosio's lungs.

Investigators determined that several things in the home had been intentionally lit on fire. Fire crews also found the back door of the house ajar and a first-floor window open.

A supervisor of Rosio, who had worked as a caretaker at the Northtown Village apartment in Spring Lake Park, told police he had called Rosio's personal phone and a man had answered and said "yeah" but there was no further conversation. The supervisor had gotten several other calls from Rosio's phone, but still there was no conversation.

Police were able to track the phone to a vehicle stopped at 29th and Emerson Avenues N. The driver told police that he had been at a nearby business last week when a man asked if anybody wanted to buy a cellphone. He said his brother bought the phone.

The man said he also had a computer to sell, according to the complaint. Witnesses identified Eason as the person who sold the merchandise.

On Friday, Eason was in the Hennepin County jail.
