MN Beer Round Up August Edition

Here are some beer related things going on around town:

  • On Saturday Fulton will introduce Lodestar Ale in partnership with The Bachelor Farmer and Marvel Bar. The Kolsch Ale brewed with rye was inspired by Nordic brewing and cuisine and will be available exclusively at the taproom and at The Bachelor Farmer/Marvel Bar until it runs out.
  • Summit Brewing is set to release Make it So which is the latest in the Unchained Series (number 19) and you can expect six packs of the Earl Grey tea infused ESB to hit store shelves next week. Speaking of Summit, they will be celebrating 29 years with the return of Backyard Bash on Saturday, September 12th from noon to 7 pm. Headlining the event will be The Suburbs and tickets will be $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Food trucks will be on site and half of the ticket proceeds will go to the Minnesota Music Coalition which supports the local independent music community.
  • Also on Saturday, September 12th will be Lift Bridge’s annual Pickin’ and Grinnin’ event where you can help them hop their fresh hop fall brew. The event kicks off at noon and the party goes till 10 pm with music, food, and of course beer.
  • Fair State Brewing Cooperative is set to release its German-Style Sour Ale called Cromulence. This brew is made with lemon and orange zest and will be available exclusively at the taproom and at both Republic locations. This beer recently won Best Beer at All Pints North and is definitely worth seeking out.

Surly Brewing's Todd The Axe Man hits shelves this week

Minnesota’s best hop bomb is hitting store shelves this week. The four packs are certainly not going to be cheap but Todd The Axe man will warrant its price with heavy doses of palate-wrecking Citra and Mosaic hops.

This beer was originally brewed in collaboration with Amager Bryghus in Denmark and was named by Amager to honor the six string skills that Surly brewer Todd Haug possesses. For those who don’t know, Haug is a cat loving metal guitarist most famous for his shredding ability with the band Powermad — who have seen a great deal of success within the metal community since their humble beginnings in the mid 1980s.

Join Surly at Pat’s Tap tonight in Minneapolis for the official release which will begin today at 3 p.m. The event features $7 Surly cans plus brand-new Axe Man swag. The beer itself won’t always be available so you’ll want to get your hands on some while you can.
