Something Brewing on the West Bank

Posted by: Ryan Tuenge under Food, beer, wine events, Beer Updated: November 13, 2011 - 5:02 PM
On Wednesday the West Bank Brewing Association will be hosting an event called “Something Brewing” at Republic, a bar located at Seven Corners in Minneapolis. This is the second event put on by the West Bank Brewing Association and will feature a couple of prominent guest speakers who will be discussing the local beer economy as well as policies and legal issues regarding the local Craft Beer scene. Speaking at this event will be Jim Diley, co-founder of Fulton Brewing Company and Omar Ansari, owner of Surly Brewing Company. Admission is free (yes, you will still have to pay for your own beer) and it’s a great way to become dialed in on what’s brewing at the State Capitol regarding local beer laws. There will also be time for questions from the audience.
West Bank Brewing Association was started last year by a group of students from the Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota who share a passion for homebrewing, beer appreciation, and public policy regarding Craft Beer. Last year they hosted an event that featured Town Hall Brewery owner Pete Rifakes and Jake Keeler who is the Director of Marketing for Northern Brewer.  Other activities that members of WBBA partake in are monthly tasting and appreciation meetings, monthly homebrewing workshops, and brewing for local charity and non-profit events. Membership is open to all University of Minnesota students and the events are open to the public 21 and older.
