The Miller-Dwan Foundation will break ground for Amberwing, a new child, adolescent and young adult mental health and chemical dependency treatment center, on Friday at 11 a.m. on the corner of Pecan Avenue and Rice Lake Road in Duluth. The $6 million, 22,000-square-foot center is scheduled to open in the fall of 2012 and will serve up to 60 young people per day.

Minnesota Forest Industries, an association representing the state's forest products companies, has created the James L. Oberstar Fellowship at the University of Minnesota's Humphrey School of Public Affairs to honor the congressman who worked for decades to help strengthen the state's $9 billion forest products industry.

Beginning with the 2011-2012 academic year, a $10,000 scholarship will be awarded each year to a Humphrey School student. Congressman Oberstar is chairman of the advisory board at the Humphrey School's Center for Excellence in Rural Safety.

The College of St. Scholastica in Duluth has been named one of the nation's top "military friendly" schools for 2012.

This is the third consecutive year St. Scholastica has received the designation, which is made by G.I. Jobs, a monthly magazine and Web site catering to military job seekers. The top 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools which are doing the most to support and assist America's veterans as students are honored.

Meantime, The College of St. Scholastica is once again rated one of the "Best Colleges" by U.S. News & World Report magazine.

U.S. News & World Report's "Best Colleges" rankings for 2012 list St. Scholastica 26th among institutions in the Best Regional Universities–Midwest region. The survey defines the category as institutions that provide a full range of undergraduate majors and master's programs. Read more.

Gold Cross has been reaccredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems. First receiving accreditation in 2008, Gold Cross is the only ground ambulance service in Minnesota and Wisconsin with the CAMTS designation.
