Driving home from work on Friday night, I noticed many of my neighbors had stacks of new phonebooks on their front porches. But when I got to my house, the porch was clear…not a phone book in site.

The only thing to be found was a small note from Superpages hanging from my doorknob. It acknowledged that I did not want to receive the yellow pages and suggested I use their website or iPhone application to look up numbers when I need them. Success!

Last fall, I used a new website called www.DontTrashThePhoneBook.org to opt out of all the yellow page directories delivered to my neighborhood. It was very easy and should save about 10 pounds of paper from being delivered to my house every year.

DontTrashThePhoneBook.org is a unique partnership between Conservation Minnesota and the major publishers of yellow pages directories. They are all there: Supermedia, Yellowbook, and Dex. It's simple…and it works.
