A small restaurant fire in the Ridgedale Center sent smoke into part of the mall Thursday morning but caused no injuries, authorities said.
The electrical fire in the ceiling of Orient Express broke out shortly after 10:30 a.m. and was put out in about 15 minutes, said Minnetonka Assistant Fire Chief Jim Flanders.
Smoke escaped into the north wing on the mall's first level, requiring the area to briefly be cleared, Flanders said. The rest of the mall was unaffected, he said.
"One of the north entrances was shut down for a little bit" to make room for fire personnel to move about, said Rich Peterson, Ridgedale's operations manager. "There was a strong odor for a while, but that dissipated pretty quickly."
The restaurant, which opened at 10 a.m., is closed for the day, Flanders said. Authorities have yet to determine how the fire began.
