Robbinsdale man charged with distributing Ecstasy

Last update: November 10, 2009 - 10:41 PM

An Robbinsdale man arrested in a grocery store parking lot with more than 4,000 ecstasy pills was indicted Tuesday by a federal grand jury.

Thongsay Prommachai, 28, is charged in U.S. District Court with one count of distribution of the psychedelic drug MDMA, also known as Ecstasy. He has posted $25,000 bail, according to federal court records.

Federal agents received information in October that Prommachai was selling the drug, according to the criminal complaint. A cooperating defendant arranged to buy the drug from him for $4.50 per pill, in conversations that were recorded, the complaint added.

On Oct. 15, Prommachai told the buyer he had 4,500 pills for sale, according to the complaint, and they set up a deal in the parking lot of a Cub Foods in Crystal. Agents had recording devices on the buyer and in the vehicle and had the parking lot under surveillance.

Prommachai got into the buyer's vehicle and left a bag with the pills, the complaint said. That's when authorities moved in and arrested him. Vince Tuss • 612-673-7692
