New Hope man is charged with beating son

Last update: October 8, 2009 - 9:11 PM

A New Hope man was charged Thursday with malicious punishment of a child, accused of beating his 12-year-old son because the boy had put on some stick-on tattoos.

The boy had multiple whip marks on his arms, back and ear, according to the criminal complaint.

John Comming Fallah, 29, also was charged in Hennepin County District Court with fifth-degree assault. He posted $6,000 bail and was released from the county jail, according to public records.

New Hope police were called Tuesday to a home on the 8300 block of 49th Avenue N. The boy told officers that his father had beaten him Monday over the tattoos and kept him home from school, which was considered another form of punishment because the boy likes going to school, the complaint said.
