Three workers receive minor injuries in blast at Loretto truck repair shop

Last update: June 29, 2009 - 8:32 PM

An explosion blew a hole in the side of a Loretto semitrailer truck repair business Monday morning, sending three men to the hospital with minor injuries.

The accident apparently happened as employees at Gary's Diesel Service tried to get the top off a large fuel tank, said Medina Police Chief Ed Belland.

The tank exploded at about 11:30 a.m., blowing a 20-foot-high hole in the side of the building, which caught fire, he said.

Firefighters from Loretto, Maple Plain and Hanover and Medina police rushed to the business at 230 St. John St. and quickly put out the blaze.

Three men were taken to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale.
