Wayzata school leaders will hold a public forum Wednesday on proposed attendance boundary changes that will shuffle elementary and middle school students to different schools.

The forum, at 7 p.m. at Wayzata Central Middle School, will review the proposed attendance boundaries for fall 2019. The changes are designed to address crowding at some schools and to fill a new ninth elementary school that's under construction this year and will open in fall 2019.

The Wayzata School District, the state's 10th largest, draws students from parts of Corcoran, Maple Grove, Medicine Lake, Medina, Minnetonka, Orono, Plymouth and Wayzata, and has been growing dramatically in recent years as home construction surges. The district anticipates 1,000 new homes being built by 2020.

Last fall, voters approved a $70 million bond referendum to build an elementary school and expand one of the three middle schools, Central, among other renovations. Since then, a 24-member committee has met to draw boundary changes, announcing the recommendations last month.

The tentative plan would move 500 elementary school students and 75 middle school students to new schools in 2019, if the school board approves the plan on May 14.
