A woman who was run over by an SUV while trying to dig her car out of a snowy highway median in the west metro died 10 days later, authorities said Sunday.

Jennifer L. Lovering, 29, of Eden Prairie, was struck April 15 on Hwy. 5 east of Dell Road and died at Hennepin County Medical Center, according to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office.

Escaping injury were the other driver, 50-year-old Christine M. Garry, and passenger 17-year-old Madison M. Garry, both of Chanhassen, the State Patrol said.

Lovering is at least the third person to have died on state roads in the midst of the largest April snowstorms in recorded Twin Cities weather history.

According to the patrol:

Lovering's car "lost traction and spun out into the median facing north," a statement from the patrol read. Lovering exited the car and started digging her vehicle out of the snow.

Garry's westbound SUV also slid into the median and struck Lovering, pinning her between the two stuck vehicles.

Lovering grew up along with her twin sister in Bemidji and graduated from Bemidji High School, where she ran track and cross-country. She graduated magna cum laude in 2010 with a math degree from Augsburg University in Minneapolis, where she was the school's No. 1 cross-country runner.

At the time of the crash, she was working for Anthem Inc., a health insurance company.
