The Edina School District has named Beth Russell as the principal of South View Middle School. The school board will take action on this recommendation at its June 22 meeting.
Russell is returning to South View after serving as an assistant principal there from 1995 to 1999. Since July 2001, she has been employed by the Minneapolis public schools as principal of Anwatin Middle School.
For the past year, she also has worked as director of the Institute for Learning as principal on special assignment. In this role, Russell was in charge of implementing the teaching and learning framework for the Minneapolis district.
"Her leadership skills in team building, data assessment and instructional improvement will be a real asset to South View's educational goals," Superintendent Ric Dressen said in a press release. Russell will begin her new job on July 1.
The Eden Prairie School District has hired Nanette Yurecko as the principal for Eden Lake Elementary School. She is replacing Chuck Richter, who is moving to Oak Point Intermediate School as principal.
Yurecko has worked for the Minneapolis public schools for the past 16 years. She started her career as a special education teacher before eventually becoming a principal and later the director of the Institute of Learning with Minneapolis schools. She also served as an adjunct professor for Augsburg College.
She'll start on Monday.
Terri Siguenza has been hired as the new principal of Eisenhower Elementary School. She is replacing Rosemary Lawrence, who is retiring.
Siguenza has been working in the field of education for 27 years in a variety of roles, including as a teacher for more than 17 years in schools in Arizona, Mexico and Minnesota. For the last 14 years she worked in the Minneapolis public schools, serving as the executive director for Minneapolis' Multicultural/Multilingual Department, principal of the Emerson Spanish Immersion Learning Center, assistant principal at Bancroft Elementary School, assistant director for services for English Language Learners, and as a mentor for new teachers.
"We are fortunate to welcome Terri to the Hopkins Public Schools leadership team," said Superintendent John Schultz. "She brings a wide range of experiences to Eisenhower students and their families."
Siguenza will start in mid-July.
The Eastern Carver County (Chaska) school board has interviewed four applicants for a position that became available due to the resignation of Carlos Gallego, who left the board to accept out-of-state employment.
The four candidates are Lisa Seaman Anderson, Chaska; Jean Buller, Chaska; Carole Lofness Baab, Chaska, and Carlye Peterson, Chanhassen.
The board expects to swear-in the new member at its June 25 meeting.
Thirteen residents applied for the vacant seat.
The Minnetonka school board is now offering on-demand streaming video of its meetings via the district website at www.minnetonka.k12.mn.us/administration/board/pages/video.aspx.
Newsweek magazine has ranked St. Louis Park High School as No. 1 in the state in its ratings of schools based on the number of advanced tests student take.
Schools are ranked according to a ratio of the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and Cambridge tests taken by all students at a school in 2008 divided by the number of graduating seniors.
St. Louis Park High School is ranked 105th in the nation in Newsweek's list.

The Wayzata Music Education Boosters are sponsoring an instrument consignment sale June 24-25 in the Wayzata High School Cafeteria, 4955 Peony Lane N., Plymouth.
From 5-8 p.m. June 24, sellers can bring in their used instruments for evaluation and pricing by area music professionals. If an instrument is sold, the seller will receive the proceeds less a small commission that supports music programs at Wayzata schools.
From 5-8 p.m. June 25, buyers can shop for instruments.
