Cyclist killed in crash on I-94 frontage road is identified

Last update: May 1, 2009 - 8:39 PM

The operator of a motorcycle that crashed this week in Afton has been identified as Charles H. Aschwanden, 61, of Edina.

He died Tuesday night when his motorcycle hit a tree on Hudson Road near Neal Avenue, the Washington County Sheriff's Office said.

The Interstate 94 frontage road that Aschwanden was riding on has a "very mild curve" at the point where it he crashed, and "he was clearly exceeding the speed limit," Olson said.

Aschwanden had been cited at least a dozen times for speeding since 1997, according to state records.
