A 2-year-old boy drowned Tuesday in a holding pond outside a farmhouse in the 22900 block of Strehler Road in Corcoran, authorities said.

Hennepin County deputies and Corcoran police officers were sent to the address at 4:20 p.m. Audio reports said a toddler had been pulled from the pond by family members and was not breathing. Paramedics were not able to revive the child, and he died at the scene.

How the child got into the holding pond "is something that is part of the investigation," said sheriff's spokesman Jon Collins. Google maps show that the property is farmland with a house, outbuildings, silos and a small pond on the land.

The Hennepin County medical examiner's office will release the name of the child and an exact cause of death.
