A longtime teacher in the Minneapolis public schools has admitted in court to possessing on computers in his home images of child pornography and others that showed him simulating sex acts with stuffed animals.
In exchange for his plea Thursday, Scott Charles Slocum, 53, of Eden Prairie had one of the three charges against him dropped in Hennepin County District Court. He was sentenced to 90 days in the workhouse and placed on probation.
According to state licensing records, Slocum taught at several schools in Minneapolis starting in 1993. Most recently, he taught at Washburn High School. His previous Minneapolis schools include: Anthony Middle School, South High School, Barton Open Elementary School, Olson Middle School and Waite Park Elementary School. Prior to Minneapolis, Slocum taught in the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted, Norwood Young America and Litchfield districts.
According to the criminal complaint:
In April 2007, Slocum's wife tipped off authorities that her husband had stored pornographic images on a computer in their Eden Prairie home.
Police examined five computers at the home and found more than 600 images depicting Slocum simulating sex acts with stuffed animals, along with photographs of children in sexual poses and other pornographic images involving children as young as 2, the complaint said. He was put on leave once police were notified, the school district said.
