Theft. Store employees observed a 17-year-old boy using a 7-year-old boy to steal items from Coopers New Market on Yellow Brick Road. The 17-year-old reportedly was instructing the 7-year-old on ways to conceal items in his jacket. They concealed numerous packages of sandwich meat inside the younger boy's jacket and then exited the store and were stopped by employees, police said. Officers arrived and the 17-year-old blamed the theft on the 7-year-old, who was his nephew. The 17-year-old was charged with theft, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and driving without a valid driver's license. The 7-year-old was not cited and was returned to his mother.
Drugs. A juvenile female reportedly was smoking opium in her vehicle while she was stopped at a red light on Hwy. 212 at Hwy. 41. She held a glass pipe to her mouth and lit the opium with a lighter as she waited at the intersection, then puffed on the pipe several times, police said. An off-duty Chaska police officer in his personal vehicle stopped at the red light next to the girl's vehicle and observed the girl light up and begin smoking. He contacted officers who were on duty and they stopped the girl a short distance later. She was arrested, police said.
OCT. 28
Public intoxication. An intoxicated woman was lying in some bushes in downtown Chaska near Hwy. 41 and County Road 61. A good samaritan located the woman and flagged down an officer. The woman had difficulty speaking and gave the officer a false name, despite the fact the officer observed her real name on her identification. She was placed in a detox facility.
NOV. 2
Underage consumption. Police responded to a report of a person lying down on Willow Drive. The office found a juvenile lying unconscious in the east ditch. The juvenile was revived and given a roadside portable breath test which registered a blood-alcohol content of .163. The juvenile was transported to the hospital and cited for underage consumption.
NOV. 3
Burglary. A home on the 6600 block of Willow Drive was burglarized. Several items were stolen. Entrance was likely gained through an unlocked sliding door.
OCT. 27
Theft. Someone stole a revolver from a vehicle on the 6500 block of France Avenue S.
OCT. 31
Theft. Someone called a man on the 7500 block of York Avenue S. claiming to be the man's grandson and stating that he needed $5,800. The man wired the money to Canada. The phone call was found to be a scam.
OCT. 18
Suspicious activity. A person called to report kids running around the area and acting suspicious on Foxberry Farms Road and Shorewood Trail. Police found several juveniles running around the Foxberry Farms Development. They stated they were ringing door bells. Police advised them to return home.
OCT. 21
Burglary. A generator, power tools and copper pipes were stolen from a home on the 5300 block of County Road 101.
OCT. 25
Burglary. Officers were dispatched to a burglary in progress on the 5200 block of Camden Avenue N. A husband and wife had tackled a man they had found burglarizing their garage. The husband sustained a severe bite, bruises to his eye and scrapes. The suspect was arrested.
Theft. A 66-year-old man was withdrawing cash from an ATM when someone came up behind him, grabbed the money and fled. A surveillance camera on the ATM got a good photo of the suspect.
OCT. 23
Theft. A snowmobile cover was stolen off a snowmobile on the 200 block of Lanewood Lane.
OCT. 25
Assault. Six people were driving in a vehicle and two inside were having a verbal argument that escalated when the vehicle stopped. One pulled a knife and stabbed the other in the shoulder and back. The suspect was arrested.
