School district seeks literacy, math tutors

Bloomington Public Schools is looking for literacy tutors for its prekindergarten programs and elementary schools. The positions are offered through two AmeriCorps programs, Minnesota Reading Corps and Minnesota Math Corps, which assist districts with full- and part-time tutors.

In pre-K programs, literacy tutors will help children ages 3 to 5 develop early reading skills in preparation for kindergarten and help ensure that kids are on track to read by the end of third grade. Elementary tutors will help students become successful readers by the end of third grade by implementing research-based literacy strategies.

Math tutors will help students become proficient in math, specifically working toward algebra proficiency by the end of eighth grade.

Literacy and math tutors must commit to 11 months of service beginning in August 2015. Tutors will receive training in instruction methods and earn a monthly stipend, as well as up to $5,550 to pay for school or student loans.
