The Department of Public Safety released the names Friday of an off-duty deputy sheriff and another man involved in the April 17 shooting at a Kwik Trip store in Norwood Young America.

McLeod County Sheriff's Deputy Matthew Allen Wyatt, 34, stopped to refuel at the gas station at 520 Reform St. when a call about an unruly patron came in around 2:40 a.m. Wyatt struggled with the patron, Michael Thomas Montgomery, 23, of Norwood Young America, before a firearm discharged, according to Carver County Sheriff Jim Olson.

Montgomery fled the scene before being apprehended a few blocks away. Both men were treated for noncritical injuries.

It is still unclear who fired the weapon and whether either man will face criminal charges related to the incident.

The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating Wyatt's use of force and will present its findings to the Carver County attorney's office for review, according to a news release.
