A 43-year-old Fridley woman was in Anoka County District Court on Tuesday facing two charges of first-degree arson.

Jennifer Beck was arrested Sunday on suspicion of arson after a fire at her mobile home in Fridley.

Beck admitted to setting the curtains of the trailer home on fire because she was upset with her boyfriend, the criminal complaint said.

Early Sunday, Beck had called police to report an alleged assault. When officers arrived, Beck was inside the home with her boyfriend, who was not the suspect. She told officers she did not want charges pressed against the suspect, who had left.

After officers left, they were nearby and noticed that Beck's home was on fire, according to the complaint.

Beck's boyfriend later told officers that after they left, she became upset at him for not "defending her quickly enough when [the suspect] assaulted her."

Shortly afterward, Beck woke him up and told him the house was on fire.

The boyfriend tried to extinguish the fire before fleeing the residence. The blaze destroyed the home and damaged several surrounding homes.

Beck later admitted to officers that she set the curtains on fire because she "was upset with [her boyfriend]," the complaint said.
