Empty Bowls sets fundraising goal

Community members of all ages are invited to enjoy hot soup and cool bowls on Tuesday, March 24, as part of the 17th annual Empty Bowls fundraiser. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Hopkins Center for the Arts, 1111 Mainstreet.

The money raised will support community food shelves — ResourceWest and the Intercongregation Communities Association (ICA) Food Shelf. The fundraising goal is $80,000. Once again, the SUPERVALU Challenge will raise money through sponsorships before the day of the event. Over the previous 16 years, Hopkins community members have helped raise $862,025 to help fight hunger in our community.

Everyone who attends will receive a handmade ceramic bowl created by Hopkins area artists, students and volunteers as a symbol of all the empty bowls in the community.

Royal Cuisine, the district's food service provider, and area restaurants are donating a meal of soup and bread. Hopkins students in various grade levels, along with local musicians, will provide musical entertainment.

The event is free and open to all. Attendees can make private donations or bid on silent-auction items.

For information about becoming a sponsor, or to volunteer time or resources, contact Barb Westmoreland at 952-988-4069.
