A 44-year-old Minnetonka man was in critical condition Tuesday morning after being shot the previous day by his 15-year-old son in the family's home, police said.

Police and firefighters were called shortly before 5 p.m. Monday about the sound of an explosion at the home in the 5400 block of Byscane Lane. When officers arrived at the home, they discovered the teen's father had been shot in the face.

Cory J. Lavasseur was in critical condition at Hennepin County Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman said. Police said about six hours after the shooting that the father was expected to survive.

The teen was found unarmed outside the house when officers arrived, according to a police statement. The boy was arrested and his father is being treated at Hennepin County Medical Center.
