Band to present 'Wizard of POPZ!'

The Edina High School Concert Band, under the direction of Paul Kile, will present "Wizard of POPZ!" on Feb 20, 21, 26, 27 and 28.

An Edina community tradition, the Edina Pops Concert is in its 62nd year. This year the band is celebrating the 75th anniversary of "The Wizard of Oz" with music from the film and from Oz-inspired shows "Wicked" and "The Wiz," and debuting an original piece, "The City of Emerald" by Alan Stein.

Performances will be at 7 p.m. all of the aforementioned dates at Edina High School's Fick Auditorium. Tickets are $6 for senior/student general admission, $10 for adult general admission, and $13 for reserved seating. On Feb. 26, student tickets will be $3 and all other tickets will be half-off.

On Feb. 28, the concert band will offer a one-hour version of the show for younger and senior audience members.

Summer registration open for Blake School

The Blake School, a preK-12 independent day school serving students from more than 55 communities, invites students and parents to explore its summer offerings on its Wayzata, Hopkins and Minneapolis campuses.

Camps and courses are open to students from schools throughout the Twin Cities. Offerings include day camps for children ages 4 to 11, sports camps, academic courses, arts and theater classes, and specialty camps.

BLOOMINGTON

City's high schools present one-act plays

Bloomington Jefferson and Kennedy high schools will each present one-act plays starting at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, in the Kennedy High School auditorium, 9701 Nicollet Av. S.

Jefferson Theatre Company will perform "The Trojan Women" by Euripides. The tragedy follows the stories of the women of Troy after their city is sacked.

Kennedy Theatre Company will perform "Blind Date," written and directed by Jennifer Bingham-May.

Tickets can be purchased at the door and are $5 for students and seniors and $7 for adults.

Both schools will perform their plays in subsection competitions for a chance to advance to section and then state competitions.

Jefferson's "The Trojan Women" won first place at a recent Metro West conference competition.
